The Checkpoints

The wording in the next paragraph has caused some confusion. The email links below are for in-between races to ask questions regarding volunteering - regardless of whether you are a ham operator or wish to help the ham radio operators in some way - just let us know if you are a ham or not. If you are wanting to ask questions during the race, then use the Email Finish Line link to the left.

Checkpoint descriptions to be posted as received. Checkpoints 5,8, and 9 are roadcrossings only, not manned checkpoints. To get more information on a particular checkpoint, or volunteer, click the link for that checkpoint.

Database - though not a checkpoint, the database and net control is the heart of the radio communications. Several years ago, Newcomb's Checkpoint leader, Gerry Walsh, wrote a little dos program called RunnerTrack to make it easier for his checkpoint to communicate, via radio, with the database. As of 2005, all the checkpoints are using his program, and 2006 saw the first use of the Windows version of his program
